For Karen Lynch, being recognized as one of the most powerful women in America was just the beginning of her journey to becoming an even more powerful woman. Since those early days, she has experienced many successes, but also faced plenty of challenges and disappointments. Here’s how Karen Lynch was able to turn her vision into reality by applying her own five principles on how to be a powerful woman.

Karen’s Story

Karen was born in Santa Monica, California. Her father’s death when she was only nine years old affected her tremendously. She moved with her mother and siblings to Whittier where they settled in a low-income neighborhood. They lived in government housing and Karen remembers how difficult it was on her mom; she took care of Karen and four other children, working two jobs most of her life. Even with all their challenges, Karen’s mother set an example for her children that showed them if you persevere and work hard you can be successful no matter what your circumstances are...

A Day in the Life of Karen Lynch

I wake up each morning and enjoy a cup of coffee on my terrace. My mornings are so peaceful, that is until I try to get our four-year-old son out of bed for school. He loves to stay in bed as long as possible which gives me time to read or write. For breakfast, I usually have oatmeal with blueberries and strawberries or protein pancakes with blackberries and whipped cream, paired with milk or my husband’s french press coffee, depending on how much time I have before work. When Alex goes off to daycare (he’s currently at home full-time), my daughter and I head out for her morning classes in Midtown East.

Tips from Karen on How to Stand Out as an Influencer in the Digital World

Own Your Power! I don’t feel like it’s about more experience or being older. It’s about your point of view, it’s about you as an individual owning your power and saying what I have to say matters. Do we ever really listen when someone is just telling us facts? Maybe in school. But in life, people want experience and they want genuine—and that comes from how you deliver it and how authentic you are. If people can see through something or if they know that what I am saying is not coming from my heart, then I think they will lose respect for me no matter what my resume looks like.

How to Become a Powerful Woman Like Karen

Karen was only one of four women in her senior year of high school. She had goals and dreams, but they were considered pretty far-fetched by all of her peers. She graduated and went on to college; while she didn’t have big ambitions at first, she was majoring in business management because it just made sense. On top of that, she worked full-time for some extra cash, so she was able to get an apartment with three other girls after graduation. It wasn’t long before Karen realized that she didn’t like where things were going—she wanted more from life than just a 9-to-5 desk job or getting married and having kids.

Lessons Learned from Karen on Anxiety While Traveling

One of my favorite quotes by Karen is, I’m not afraid to die because I am already dead inside. What does that mean? She meant she couldn’t let fear or anxiety control her, so she didn’t let anything bother her; rather, she was bothered by it. She took problems and situations as they came and would figure out what she needed to do. Karen didn’t have time for foolishness; she handled problems as they came. With that being said, there were lessons learned from Karen on anxiety while traveling that led me to reflect on some travel experiences I had gone through with my husband prior to reading her book.
