Being feminine isn’t just about wearing heels, having long hair and wearing make-up. It’s about being the best version of yourself, whatever that may be. Here are 10 tips to help you make the most of your femininity, no matter what it looks like to others.

1) Walk with Confidence

Looking feminine starts with looking confident. It may sound cliché, but your body language is important. Stand up straight and project poise as if you own whatever room you’re in; a relaxed posture can suggest weakness, so fake it till you make it by practicing in front of a mirror if necessary. You should always feel like there’s no one around who can beat you at anything, because there isn’t—you’re just not letting them see it yet.

2) Exercise

Studies have shown that regular exercise can reduce stress and anxiety, improve body image, lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone), and boost self-esteem. Exercise also releases mood-boosting endorphins, promotes better sleep quality, enhances energy levels during busy weeks, increases libido in women and their partners (if they’re in healthy relationships) -- you get the idea. The best part? It can all be accomplished while still being productive at work! Try including a short burst of intense exercise into your lunch hour or simply walking over to a coworker’s desk instead of sending an email. (Be sure your boss is okay with both first.) You’ll find yourself more relaxed when you return to your computer screen.

3) Dress With Style

If you dress like a grown-up, people will take you more seriously. If you’re stuck in a bad habit—like wearing too much spandex or spending hours on your hair every morning—it might be time for an overhaul. Dressy but not fussy, classic and feminine is always chic; jeans and a T-shirt are fine if they’re clean and fit well. Even just swapping out leggings for tights can make all the difference when it comes to looking put together!

4) Love Yourself First

The most important thing you can do for your femininity is to love yourself and not be ashamed of who you are as a woman. When you feel confident in who you are, others will follow your lead. Work on improving yourself from within and feeling comfortable with your appearance. In doing so, others will find that their perceptions about who you are change as well. It is possible to learn how to make yourself feel more feminine without relying solely on external factors. Practice self-care habits such as showering regularly, dressing neatly, keeping up with personal grooming habits, and eating a healthy diet consisting of nutrients your body needs in order stay fit and keep its energy levels up throughout each day. Some women have very long hair while others have short styles like pixie cuts or even shaved heads.

5) Wear Red Lipstick

For some women, wearing red lipstick can make them feel more confident. Even if you’re not used to wearing makeup, taking a few minutes in front of a mirror and practicing putting on lipstick can be empowering. As with anything new, it takes time getting used to. But once you get past that initial uncomfortable stage, it will be easier each time. Just like any other part of fashion or style—it’s something that gets easier with practice. So wear your red lipstick regularly until it becomes second nature!

6) Use Natural Hair Products

Lots of beauty products have chemicals in them that can potentially hurt your health and your skin. To avoid harmful ingredients, choose natural hair products instead. There are all kinds of organic or non-toxic hair products out there that still get your locks looking great! You may find you’re happier with how they make you look—and they might even help your hair grow faster, according to some studies. Natural is beautiful.

7) Stay Hydrated - Water Works Wonders!

Dehydration can have a variety of negative side effects on your body, from causing headaches and dry skin to damaging your digestive system. The best part about staying hydrated is that it’s pretty easy! All you need is a water bottle (make sure you like how it tastes before you buy one) and plenty of water throughout the day. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that every time you go in for a sip, you’re going in for several sips at once. Remember, dehydration can sneak up on you, so stay hydrated throughout your day and try not to get distracted by any thirsty thoughts!

8) Be Fierce and Work Hard

Working hard is sometimes perceived as unfeminine. There are a lot of other stereotypes out there that come with being a woman, like not being able to keep your emotions in check or being aggressive at work. In reality, though, many women thrive in situations that involve stress and competition. That doesn't mean every woman needs to be like Donna Ebsen (who?) but when you need some motivation for hard work or an inner fire turned up about something, just think about these 10 tips for making it happen!

9) Have Fun!

Staying home all day, every day isn’t a great way to start taking advantage of your feminine wiles. Whether you’re working or volunteering, get out and do something social—maybe even flirt with a stranger or two! You might be surprised at how much people enjoy being around you when you’re happy and relaxed. And if they don’t like it? Then they probably aren’t worth your time in any case.

10) Enjoy Life and Laugh At Yourself!

Making light of situations and focusing on what’s important in life will help you avoid taking yourself too seriously. Laughter is one of our best medicines, and it also serves as a natural stress reliever. When we can laugh at ourselves, we are more confident and self-assured—even when all eyes are on us! Being able to brush off a mistake or two instead of obsessing over it can free up an abundance of energy to get back into the game. So don’t take yourself too seriously—after all, if you win big today, no one will remember your goof tomorrow anyway!
